Santa Maria is one of the 7 vineyards from the São Fransisco Valley, Brazil, known as new latitude (8º South) wines, is a joint venture of Brazil's Expand wine distributor and the very experienced Dão Sul Group from Portugal formed in 2002.
These wines are different in that they are produced in a semi-arid region of the Brazilian Sertão at a latitude of 8º South and have many unique regional traits. The famed critic Jancis Robinson has defined these wines as not New World but New Latitude.
