This is one of the most famous kilo buffet restaurants in Recife. It is located in the heart of Boa Viagem, just a few metres away from the beach and just next door to the art and handicraft fair, which makes it a perfect pick when you are visiting this neighbourhood.
Chica Pitanga is so popular both among locals and tourists that in its early years waiting lines were quite long. A reform in 2012 made both waiting times shorter and the room for waiting costumers more comfortable.
You might ask what's so special about this buffet for so many people to go to it. The answer is right on the table: the sheer variety and flavour of all options offered daily. The recipes elaborated by Paula Amorim de Aquino and her mother, Conchita, comprise a dozen different types of salads and a dozen more hot dishes, which are also constantly updated. The seafood, meat and regional cuisine served here are among the best in town. In Chica Pitanga, sophisticated dishes with shrimp, fish and beef share the counter with fresh fruits of the season and local desserts, creating a very familiar and unpretentious atmosphere.
Though the price is notably higher than other simpler buffet restaurants in Recife (called by locals 'self-service'), it is pretty adequate given the superior quality of the food, the charming environment and the privileged location.
