Igreja da Madre de Deus
Recife
The Church of God´s Mother was built in the 1680, a year where the architecture was going to its second Baroque phase. It is located in the street Madre de Deus in the Recife neighborhood, next to the Shopping Paço Alfandega.
Is considered a 'Baroque Temple and is noted for its exquisite façade stone sculptures with a life-size image of St. Philip Neri. Sandstone from the reefs was used in its facade.
The interior has works in cantarini, carving and imaginary, in addition to precious images of the Matrix of the Holy Body, demolished in the early XX century.
Some historical records show that in 1971, the church was partially destroyed by a fire. For such a long time, it has been neglected until its much-awaited restoration just recently.
The grandiose of its exteriors and interiors would only leave one in awe. For years, the church continues to attract travelers from many countries.
