Dois Irmãos Zoological Park

The Dois Irmaos ('Two brothers') Zoo was founded in 1939 from a Botanical gardens, named after Antônio and Tomás Lins Caldas. The land derived from their Dois Irmaos sugar mill, dating back to 1577 making it one of the first in Brazil. It is run by the State Government.
Today it is a pleasant and affordable day out for the whole family with around 127 native and foreign species to see. There are snack and ice cream facilities at convenient points which are necessary after walking in the tropical heat.
You can also make an Ecological guided trail through the Atlantic rain forest around the Zoo from Tuesdays to Saturdays - prior reservations are required by telephone (+55 81) 3183.5539.
The Zoo is situated in the north-west of Greater Recife and approximately 30 minutes drive/taxi from Boa Viagem or downtown Old Recife.
Cost R$2 - over 60's and children under 1m tall free.
