Centro de Artesanato de Pernambuco - CAPE Recife
Recife
CAPE Recife is the 2nd purpose built arts and handicrafts centre in Pernambuco. The 1st is 100km inland in town of Bezerros. These centres are run by the State Government to benefit all local artesans and help them showcase and sell their marvellous creations direct to the public.
Visitors can peruse the themed areas of local arts and crafts, from animal and religigous clay figures, wood carved scenes of local culture to furniture and emboidered bedware and clothing - a trulty rich experience for the senses.
All of what you see can be purchased and put in your case for personal use or unique presents back home.
CAPE Recife was created from a restored dock warehouse next to Marco Zero square in Old Recife, and brings the whole area back to life. It is the first stage of a major redevelopment of the old Recife port area. You can easily spend the whole afternoon, wandering around the colourful and historical sights and attractions of Recife Antigo.
Next door to CAPE is a lovely bar, Bistro e Boteco, open for lunch and dinner, which looks out over the water and the Millenium sculpture park on the breakwater.
