Spettus Derby
Recife
This steakhouse was the first of a large chain that today comprises 10 restaurants in Brazil and two in Argentina. It is located in a very central position in town: the Derby neighbourhood, which is equidistant for people on the South and North zones of Recife. Add that to a spot right off the most cardinal avenue of the city, and you get one of the busiest and best known steakhouses in the region.
Spettus serves the famous 'rodízio', which, as you might have heard, is an all-you-can-eat extravaganza, where you don't even need to leave your table to be fed: waiters bring the meat right to your plate. Here, over 22 different cuts are served, all from high level beef, imported from Argentina and Uruguay. The wine menu also has some top level foreign labels available. The buffet table has a great variety of choices, with salads, cold appetizers and even Japanese food (prepared on the spot by the house's sushiman). And after you're completely and utterly full, a glimpse of the dessert cart will magically make your stomach create more room for one of the mesmerizing ice creams, cakes, pies, chocolates and fruits.
The restaurant is most busy in lunch hours, since Brazilians tend not to eat 'churrasco' at night. Thus, if you are looking for a more reserved experience, come in for dinner, which is also when the band, a standard jazz trio, plays some comfy standards. The restaurant also has a playground for children and a space for children parties. The restaurant has the capacity to receive up to 700 people.
