Empadas Santa Massa

Recife

For a super light break at the beach, simply enjoy some natural coconut water (yes, from the coconut). A classic among locals.

These little, melt-in-the-mouth mini pies are truly irresistible. Add to that the lovely views and sea breeze of Boa Viagem beach, and a cozier afternoon snack is hard to imagine.

Very popular throughout the country, Brazilian empadas are an all-time favourite for a quick bite. At Santa Massa, a number of options - with both savory and sweet fillings - include prawns, chicken and beef jerky with catupiry soft cheese. Codfish and crab also figure among local preferences. Vegetarian recipes such as three cheese, heart of palm or gorgonzola and sun-dried tomatoes are enormously addictive.

The menu features four sweet empadas: chocolate, dulce de leche and the traditional Cartola - fried bananas and cheese with cinnamon sugar sprinkles - and Romeo e Julieta - cream of guava with cheese.

Besides its famous golden beauties, Santa Massa serves chicken fillet, sun-dried tomato, ham and cheese soft rolls.

Pop around for a simple, sweetly comforting moment.
