Itamaraca Peixe Boiマリン哺乳類研究所は、アメリカのほとんどの地域に生息する、おとなしい愛らしい海洋哺乳類であるマナティーの回復とリハビリに専念しています。一般的な名前 'Peixe Boi'は文字通り'Bull fish'を意味し、最大で半トンに達するサイズが特徴です。

マナティーは完全な菜食性であり、南東部および北東部ブラジルの熱帯海岸沿いからアマゾン盆地までに生息し、野生で生存している個体はわずか400匹です。

地域の河口で漁業やプロペラによる負傷をした多くのマナティーが一般市民や環境保護団体によって発見され、環境機関ICMBioによってEcoparqueに連れて来られます。

Recifeの北海岸にある歴史的なイタマラカ島に位置し、Praia do ForteビーチとForte Orangeの近くに便利にあります。異なる種類の素晴らしい日帰り旅行や長期滞在を行うのに最適です。

主な見どころであるマナティーの水槽以外にも、教育用映画を上映するシアターや楽しいお土産を販売するギフトショップがあります。
